Purpose of role:

- To provide a friendly, caring and helpful first point of contact to the surgery for all, whether patients or visitors.

- Contribute to the efficient running of the surgery

- Support clinicians in their organisation and communication with patients

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome every patient who calls or visits the surgery in both what you do and what you say
  • Stay up to date with and explain clearly to patients how to use the surgery services
  • Complete start-up checklist tasks before 08:30 and close-down checklist tasks after 18:30
  • Appointment booking, and where needed cancellation, for all clinics as requested by patients
  • Appointment booking, and where needed cancellation, for all clinics as requested by clinicians or the practice recall system
  • Processing of prescription requests, repeat issues as well as queries
  • Verbal giving of test results and planned next steps to patients, as defined by GP or Nurse
  • Provide telephone cover and direction of calls throughout the surgery opening hours
  • Handle all paper, parcel and verbal communications that come into or go out from reception desk

(Letters, prescriptions, blood forms, deliveries, leaflets, forms etc…)

  • Take and record payments for chargeable services and issue receipts
  • Stay up to date with all relevant practice protocols and suggest/implement improvements
  • Support all clinicians in the resolution of logistical issues during clinic
  • Keep the waiting room and reception area tidy and up to date
  • Complete all mandatory training and refresher training each year
  • Attend and contribute to the majority of the team meetings held throughout the year
  • Take responsibility for one of the receptionist individual responsibility areas

TARGET OUTCOMES

100% of appointment bookings made correctly and communicated successfully to patients

Zero prescription processing delays due to error in handling a request

Make at least 2 improvements to practice protocols each year

Team goal: 95% of patients say receptionists are helpful, friendly and caring in the annual survey

LATE SURGERY COVER REQUIRED

This vacancy is for 3 afternoons a week (13:00 - 18:30)

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 29 per week

Salary: £10.42 per hour

  • Receptionist: 1 year (preferred)
